The hike up one of Uganda’s mountains is one of the most compelling on the continent. You have to be fit, but the rewards at the top make the effort well worthwhile. It really is another world at the top , plants, rocks; and from there you can survey the tropical forests and wildlife.

Adventurous hike to the mountains of Uganda!

Rwenzori Mountains National Park 
Located in the western part of Uganda. This is one of Africa’s tallest mountain range with an elevation of 5,109m. The Rwenzori range has got 6 major peaks: Mt Stanley (5,109m), Mt Speke (4,890m), Mt Baker (4,843m), Mt Emin (4,798m), Mt Gessi (4,715m) and Mt Luigi di Savio (4,627). Mt Stanley complex also known as the Margherita peak is said to be the highest with 5,109m and it’s this peak that makes the Rwenzoris the 3rd highest range in Africa.

7 Days Wildlife & Hiking Adventure

Day 1        Your safari guide will pick you from your hotel and depart by road through Uganda’s rolling green hills to Lake Mburo National Park (the drive will take approximately 3-4 hours). You will have a stopover at the Equator for a photographic opportunity and also listen to some few interesting facts. We will continue to Hotel Brovad Masaka where we will have our lunch before making our final descent to Lake Mburo.  Lake Mburo National Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates. Bird viewing opportunities are excellent – for birders, this is one of the best places to find African fin foot, papyrus bush shrike.  After checking in, you will take a late afternoon game drive or a canoe ride on Lake Mburo.

Day 2        Early morning game drive along designated tracks offers a wonderful encounter with wild game that can include: Zebras, Waterbucks, Elands, Leopards, Buffaloes, Topis, and different bird species. We proceed on a 2hrs journey to the hilly Kabale District. Lunch at BSR and spend the afternoon at leisure swimming in Lake Bunyonyi or checking out the surrounding hills on foot. Dinner and

Day 3        After a late breakfast take a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi to visit the islands. Enjoy a quite nature walk among the rustling trees full of bird life. The boat ride will also take you further off to view more of the lake, surrounding hills and traditionalhomesteads.

If the tour is conducted on a Wednesday or Saturday, you can enjoy the market day that brings together people from as far as Rwanda. You may also get treated to local dances by the forest pygmy tribe known as the Batwa. Return for lunch at BSR. Spend the rest of the day swimming, hiking or just watching the otters and waterbirds.

You could also spend the time visiting the hot springs, ironsmiths and waterfalls in Kabale district and Kisiizi. In the evening, you may take a canoe ride on the lake to watch the elusive otters and water birds. Or you may take a hike on one of the hills to get a good view of the surrounding volcanoes, hills and town.

Day 4        After an early breakfast proceed to Rwenzori Mountain National Park having lunch en-route.

Day 5        After breakfast in the morning, you will head to the Park headquarter at Nyakalengijja 1,646m, where you will receive the briefing from the guides and the renting equipments. The Hike starts through the plantations and homes of the Bakonjo, the people of the mountain, gradually garden plots ad elephant grass. You follow the Mobuku River. The trail passes through an open bracken fern slopes and Podorcarpus Forest, up to Nyabitaba Hut, 2,652m, which is the arrival point for the day. This will take form 5-6hours. From the location, you are facing on the North the Portal Peaks, 4,627m… in front Mount Kyniangoma. Duri8ng the day, you might see Monkeys, the Rwenzori Turaco and hearing the Chimpanzees.
Day 6        You will relax at Nyabitaba Hut and you reach Lake Muhoma, walking through the Bambolo Forest. Observe the vegetation and encounter the monkeys, Rwenzori turaco and other birds.
Overnight at Nyabitaba
Day 7        You will walk along the Mobuku river, the bamboo forest, the Kamato bog until you cross the Mobuku-Kichuchu bridge. The Mobuku.
