This is one of the African countries where you must not travel minus thorough information about what is transpiring in the country at the time because the security of the country keeps on changing day in day out due to the prevailing several rebel groups vying for the country’s top political seat. Anyone wishing to drive on his/her visit to Angola, must know that the major roads linking the country’s capital city Luanda and the other major towns are not all that the best. Some roads are totally in sorry state and traveling outside the capital city is always advised to be in a convoy of more than two 4×4 wheel drive vehicles. On several occasions, land mines and grenades are always seen exploding and therefore personal security is very important not to move any how especially on roads, major bridges, buildings and the countryside.
When it comes to the rainy season (November-April), the country becomes a total mess as bridges and roads are always washed away by sudden floods and there is an increased chance of mines becoming displaced and surfacing outside known mine fields.
Always follow the advice given to you by the various embassies and consulates in the country when traveling outside Luanda. Therefore it is advised to visit the foreign office website before commencing with your travel plans. There are multiple police checks and road brocks given the security insurgencies. So you are advised to oblige to such stops and always carry valid International Driving permit.
